Per-tab volume control for Chrome
Volume Master is a free browser add-on coming from indie developer Peta Sittek. It's a Google Chrome extension that provides users with volume controls on a per-tab basis. With it, they can individually adjust levels for every webpage that is playing any kind of media or sound.
Much like other extensions like Volume Booster or Simple Volume Booster, Volume Master makes it easy for users to control playback volume without having to leave Chrome itself. It allows for granular adjustments and it also has the option to boost output by up to sixfold if the hardware can handle it.
Granular control
Over the course of your daily web browsing, you will stumble upon websites with media that you can play, be it music, videos, or even casual online games. There will be times when you want two tabs to sound out simultaneously, but their volume levels are competing with one another. With the Volume Master Chrome extension, you can control volume levels individually.
This tool is straightforward to install and you can immediately use it from its extension icon next to the address bar. Click on it and a drop-down window will appear with a volume slider that you can adjust and boost up to 600 percent. You can make fairly granular steps to get to the level you want using your mouse or your keyboard arrow keys.
What's more, down below, you can see which tabs are playing media at any given moment so you can jump between them right away from the list. You can even press numbers zero to six to quickly go from no sound to 600 percent at increments of 100. On the same note, just be aware that pushing your volume that high can cause irreparable damage to your speakers.
Exercise caution
Volume Master is such a handy tool that it's a wonder why no one thought of it sooner, but here it is. It is easy to use, gets out of your way, and just works as it's supposed to. Do exercise caution when utilizing its boost feature as you may damage your hardware unintentionally. Aside from that, this is a must-have.
